Dark Skies Evening 20th October 7pm - 9:30pm

Join us for something a little different after dark on 20th October at Pennywell Farm Devon Tourist Attraction. An evening of Star Gazing suitable for all levels of astronomer. You don't need any experience or knowledge, just come along and discover the awesomeness of the night sky above you.

The team at Pennywell often get to enjoy the beautiful night sky on the shorter autumn evenings, our location on the edge of Dartmoor and lack of light pollution makes for perfect star gazing conditions. So this year we thought we should share the view.

After the farm closes for the day on 20th October and the stars come out you can join us for a hearty locally sourced hot dinner in our cafe. Then take a tractor ride in the dark for some Star Gazing in the Show Field, this will be guided by Chris Cooke from Plymouth Astronomical Society. We will hopefully be treated to observing the Orionid Meteor Shower. As well as a large waxing moon, Mars and Saturn.

Plymouth Astronomical Society will then host mingling and mulled cider in our heated theatre afterwards. Take a look at telescopes and sky charts and enjoy a talk from David Walton, president of Plymouth Astronomical Society, which will be aimed at younger astronomers. We'll also be surveying our resident bats using a bat monitor.

As this in an after hours event the farm itself will be closed and the animals will be in bed. Tickets for this event are separate to Pennywell Day Entry tickets and booking is essential. Spaces are limited.

Dinner and a hot drink are included in the price. You will need warm clothes, a torch and sturdy footwear.

Why not make a night of it? Or even a weekend... Enjoy dinner and star gazing at the farm and stay at nearby Dartington Hall. The rich history of the Hall makes their accomodation truely unique, but Dartington is not just a place to stay. On Sunday you could take in the deer park and indulge in a Roast at the White Heart restaraunt. For booking and availability see www.dartington.org/visit/stay/book-a-room/
