WINNING WAS CHILD’S PLAY At Pennywell – Devon Tourist Attraction
Pennywell Farm Devon Tourist Attraction has scooped the runners-up prize in the prestigious Netmums Outdoor Play Awards.
We clinched one of the top spots after being voted for by members of Britain’s biggest parenting site Netmums.com. The award came in the same week that Pennywell celebrated 25 years as a tourist attractions so it was the icing on the birthday cake for owners Chris and Nicky Murray.
Chris said: “We are delighted to receive this award and it’s wonderful to be recognized for what we do. Although Pennywell has plenty of undercover attractions, there’s nothing like letting children run free outdoors and now we are delighted to be recognized by Netmums as one of the regions best outdoor attractions.”
The latest figures show the outdoor attractions sector is worth a whopping £480m to the UK economy and the awards were set up to recognize the growing number of outdoor attractions catering for families across the country.
Recent studies have found that primary school aged children spend only ten per cent of their time playing outdoors, four times less than their parents’ generation but parenting experts are calling for youngsters to spend much more time outside.
Over 1.7 million mums, dads and child carers who are registered Netmums members were eligible to cast their votes in the awards, to find the UK’s best-loved outdoor attractions.
Pennywell will receive a string of prizes including a special certificate to display at the venue, an exclusive badge for their website listing, free advertising on Netmums and promotion on the site’s awards pages.
Netmums.com local editor Karen Archer said: ‘We are so lucky to have lots of fantastic outdoor venues to choose from, but mums and dads rated Pennywell as somewhere extra special. It’s fantastic to know children can enjoy the great outdoors safely and happily at such a lovely venue.”
Chris added: “Pennywell has won many awards over the past 25 years but to win an award voted for by parents is rather special”.
Earlier in the year Pennywell was awarded Best Green Business 2014 in the Herald Express Business Awards and holds the Best Visitor Attraction Award in the English Riviera and South Devon Tourism Awards.
