Boxers Diary - Life on the farm observed by Boxer the Shire horse

Man’s Best Friend

Billy 1

My fellow Shire horse Fusilier has been my best friend for many years but I have often heard it said that a dog is man’s best friend. From what I have observed in my time at Pennywell, I think that might be true.

Farmer Samantha brings her Springer Spaniel, Tilly to work and Mollie the terrier comes along Farmer Ellie. They run around the farmyard together every morning and it looks like great fun.

Earlier this year, it was very sad for us when Billy the Boxer dog passed away. He was owned by Farmer Catherine and had been coming to Pennywell with her ever since he was a puppy. All the Pennywell team and animals were extremely fond of him.

Billy was a very gentle soul and was certainly Catherine’s best friend. He followed her everywhere and loved her very much. It is always sad when we lose friends that we love but after some time has passed, it’s great to look back and be able to smile about all the times you shared together. We certainly have plenty of happy memories of Billy.

Just love hear you story of Billy. It brought tears to my eyes. I have a Boxer called Thomas. He is 8 years old. He looks incredibly like Billy. We came to Pennywell last summer for the day with our Grandson Finley and Tom spent a few hours in your kennels.

We are hoping to come again in May for the day and Thomas will come with us!

I Would have sent you a picture of Thomas but i can’t see that this is possible with this email.

Thomas and I do so wish had been able to have met your Billy.

    Best wishes

    Lesley and Thomas
