Win a VIP Visit to Pennywell
Pennywell Farm reaches a huge landmark on 22nd May this year and to celebrate 25 years of Pennywell, we have launched a nostalgic photo competition to win a VIP visit to the farm for up to ten people.
We are on the lookout for photographs capturing visitors’ days out and happy memories from the past 25 years, to form part of the birthday celebrations at the farm. The photographs will be displayed at Pennywell for the rest of the season.
The winning image will be one that is judged by members of the Pennywell team to best capture the essence of a day at the Farm. The prize can be saved for a family celebration like a birthday or anniversary or can just be a great day out for a group of family and friends. The day will include lunch, drinks and a tour of the farm with Pennywell’s VIP Manager, Samantha Bottoms.
Chris and Nicky Murray first opened Pennywell to the public on 22nd May 1989 with just themselves and one member of staff. If the challenge of starting a new business wasn’t enough, their first son Angus was born just twenty days before the farm opened. 25 years on, the farm employs up to seventy five people during the summer months and has welcomed over a million visitors.
Pennywell was the first farm attraction in the country to introduce a real hands on experience with animals and the first to introduce half hourly activities, a formula that has been repeated all over Britain.
Sticking at it is what Nicky feels has been the key to Pennywell’s success, as she explains: “There have been many setbacks and challenges over the years but my advice to anyone with a dream is to believe in it and never give up”.
Chris and Nicky’s own collection of photographs capture many truly memorable moments from the Countess of Wessex paying a Royal visit to the image of some piglets that catapulted the Pennywell Miniature Pigs to international fame.
There have of course been low moments as well, the most notable being foot and mouth in 2001 when Pennywell was forced to close its doors and struggled to survive.
Chris has started the ball rolling with some images that bring back some very special Pennywell memories for him.
Anyone who has taken photographs at Pennywell over the past 25 years is invited to share their images on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #pennywell25.
Alternatively, you can email images (no bigger than 1mb) to email@example.com or send copies to: Pennywell Farm Birthday Competition, Pennywell Farm, Buckfastleigh, Devon, TQ11 0LT. Unfortunately we will not be able to return any images.
Competition closes at midnight on 21st May 2014.
